Students from Inver Hills Community College took part in a Mississippi River Institute (MRI) free, one-day workshop in mid-September 2025. The workshop took place on the MRI floating classroom barge, Mississippi River Institute, a 1930s crane barge restored by Living Lands & Waters (LL&W), a nonprofit organization based in East Moline, Illinois, to serve as a mobile teaching platform that informs students about river ecosystems and riverine careers.
Living Lands & Waters has spent the past several weeks docked in Owensboro, pulling trash from the Ohio River and welcoming hundreds of local students aboard its barge for hands-on lessons.
Living Lands and Waters is used to digging through the depths of the rivers, ridding the water of trash and pollution. But on Saturday, August 9, they took to the skies above the water. For the second time, they created a team to compete at the Annual Red Bull Flugtag competition.
